Two nights in a desert camp leave time for both sunset and early light. Continue along desert roads and through sculpted canyons, with visits to the Western Xia tombs, Zhenbeibu and the rock art of the Helan Mountains.

Ochre walls shift in shape around each bend of Dream Canyon. Take time to look closely at the rock textures and pause for photographs. The walking route and its demands will be confirmed in your itinerary.

The Western Xia tombs, Helan Mountain rock art and Zhenbeibu bring different cultural perspectives to the route. This film introduces the tombs and their mountain setting before you explore the sites on your journey.

An eight-day journey outline
This sample follows the supplied itinerary, starting and ending in Lanzhou. Travel arrangements, accommodation and activities will be confirmed before departure.

Arrive in Lanzhou
Begin with the Yellow River waterfront and time to settle in.
Let the Yellow River waterfront introduce the journey at a gentle city pace. Arrival transport, the meeting arrangement and the time available that day are coordinated before departure.
Overnight: Lanzhou - 02
Travel to the Tengger Desert
Travel from Lanzhou to the camp for your first desert night.
Watch the landscape open out as the journey moves from the city towards the dunes. Settle your luggage and get to know the camp before the evening’s programme begins.
Overnight: Tengger camp - 03
A day in the desert
Spend another day at camp, with activities adapted to conditions and your confirmed plan.
A second night at the same camp removes the need to organise the day around another hotel change. There is time to notice the dunes in different light and enjoy camp life, with specific activities discussed in your proposal.

The Western Xia tombs and Zhenbeibu
Visit the tombs, a goji garden and Zhenbeibu, then stay in Yinchuan.
The focus shifts from dunes to the cultural landscapes around Yinchuan. The tombs, goji garden and film site introduce historical remains, local produce and cinematic spaces as distinct themes.
Overnight: Yinchuan - 05
Desert roads and Dream Canyon
Continue via Laseng Temple and the desert road to Dream Canyon, then on to Dengkou.
Open desert roads give way to the turns of canyon walls, followed by a night in Dengkou. Walking and photography follow the actual visiting areas; scenery seen from the road does not imply a stopping point.
Overnight: Dengkou - 06
Sand Lake and Yinchuan
Visit Sand Lake, where dunes meet water, and return to Yinchuan.
The meeting of sand and water is the day’s visual theme. Begin with the wider setting, then notice shoreline, plants and reflections. Returning to Yinchuan brings the journey back to a city overnight.
Overnight: Yinchuan - 07
The Helan Mountain area
Explore the grassland stop and rock art before returning to Yinchuan.
Grassland and rock art connect landscape observation with cultural visits. Notice the scale of the surroundings and bring questions to the explanations at the site, before returning to Yinchuan.
Overnight: Yinchuan - 08
Return to Lanzhou
The supplied itinerary returns from Yinchuan to Lanzhou for onward departure.
The final day still includes travel from Yinchuan to Lanzhou. Confirm the return and onward connection arrangements before booking personal departure transport.

Night-sky visibility depends on weather, moonlight and local conditions, so it cannot be guaranteed.
